Big G

Last Sunday I heard a commercial on the radio about a family night at the hockey game in town.  It has been a long time since Drew and I have gone to a hockey game and the kids have never been, so we packed up and headed out.  Wow!  Talk about sensory overload!  The kids loved it.  For the first 20 minutes no one said a word.  It was just eyes as big as saucers soaking it all in.  Then questions came pouring out of Kate and she talked nonstop the rest of the game (I am not even exaggerating that a tiny bit!).  There was a dog noise that barked every so often, that was probably Ben's favorite, and he barked right along.  Each time the home team scored, a train whistle blew and the lights flashed.  The crowd did a little dance and it was fun to do it with the kids.  The kids danced and cheered and shouted (just because they could).  Ben loved it when the guys would get slammed against the glass right in front of us.  He'd say "Ouch!!", then giggle.  Luke did a lot of clapping and pointing, kind of his usual routine.  Part of the family night deal included a hotdog, popcorn, and pop for each of the kids.  That was a treat for sure!  Never would they get all of that on one of our outings.  They were in heaven!

Kate even danced and cheered enough that the mascot threw her this shirt.  What a lucky girl!

Needless to say, the Goebel's will be attending another hockey game!  We had a great family afternoon.  But wait, it doesn't end there!  As we were leaving the arena they were passing out free bowling vouchers.  It had something to do with the number of goals that were scored, but anyhow they gave us 5 games of bowling.  Something else we've never done before with the kiddos!  Since we were in town, still getting along, and all in relatively good moods; we decided to head on over to the bowling alley.  They gave us 5 games, and because Luke really isn't up for bowling yet, we ran by Aunt Jenn's house and (literally) dragged her along with us.

How fun is bowling?!  Kate really got it.  She was determined to get a strike, and came very, very close (thanks to bumpers).  Ben had a hard time understanding that you roll the ball and you don't kick it.  But, kicking worked out fine for him too.  Luckily the family next to us was patient, and I'm pretty sure entertained by our antics (especially Drew's - you can barely take him anywhere). Luke just walked around, saying hi and gaining fans.  It took us 2 hours to bowl 1 game!  Fun AND tiring!
