We took a mini-vacation to St. Louis and hit up the St. Louis Zoo two days in a row. Our original plan was to visit Grant's Farm one of the days, but found out it doesn't open until May. It worked out fine because we didn't get to see all we wanted to see at the zoo during the first day. The weather was great, it was about 60 and sunny both days...perfect zoo weather. We were there mid-week so there was hardly anyone else there, no lines, no trouble parking, it was great. And since the weather was so mild the animals were really out and moving around. Oddly enough, Kate's very favorite part of the zoo was the snake house. Normally that would be the part of the zoo I would be OK skipping over. But not this trip, we visited the snake house both days! Kate loved going from snake to snake and listening to me tell her about each one, if it was endangered, if it was poisonous, where it lives, what it eats... I showed her how to tell if the snake was poisonous or endangered (the words were in red), so then she'd run ahead of me and shout, "Yep Mom! This one's poisonous!" Or, "This one's almost extinct!". Or, "This one has no red letters; it's friendly!".
Ben was just along for the ride. He was most interested in the elephants and feeding time for the bears. The grizzly bears actually caught the food in their mouth. Riding the train was probably his most favorite. He waved at everyone we passed and said "chugga, chugga, choo-choo" as we rode. It was a fun couple days at the zoo!
And this is just to prove that we took Luke with us and he had a pretty good time too!
Kate was very interested in the Arch so one evening before we headed back to the hotel we stopped by it to take a closer look. She was so excited to get her picture taken in front of it but had a hard time understanding that I needed her to stand away for the actual arch if she wanted her picture with it. So, most of the pictures we took of Kate in front of the Arch just look like pictures of Kate standing in front of a silver wall!
After leaving St. Louis we headed to Shelbyville to celebrate Easter with Drew's family. For the past several years we've had a Greek dinner for Easter with the Goebels. It is always something to look forward to. Then the kiddos had their Easter egg hunt. Lots of little Goebels make for a fun day!
From Shelbyville we headed to Gridley to celebrate Easter Sunday with my family. Lots of good food, another Easter egg hunt, and a surprise visit from Great Mono. It was the perfect ending to our spring break!
