We haven't been to Shelbyville to visit Drew's parents all summer and it is something the kids always enjoy so much. It is kind of like going on vacation (which we sadly didn't get to do this summer either).
Our first stop was Grammy's pool. After seeing some kids at the pool earlier this summer, Kate has been dying to swim with snorkeling gear (or breathe underwater as she calls it). Lucky for her, Papa was able to find some for her and she had a great time trying it out. She also went off the diving board and down the big slide a few times (forget that dinky frog slide she has loved so much in summers past). She even did a dive off the diving board a couple of times!! I was amazed (and praying please don't get hurt, please don't get hurt) because she has never done a dive before in her life and decided to try it off the diving board for the first time!! She did great! Sadly, I didn't get any pictures because I was keeping track of the boys and watching in shock while Grammy & Papa helped Kate in the deep end.
Ben likes to take it easy in the water. He kicked around for a bit. Then tried the frog slide once or twice, but the water was a little chilly and that's just not his style. Instead he found a few "jobs" to keep him busy in the sand pit area. His "job" was to scoop a claw full of sand, then carry it across the sand pit area to a little funnel toy where he deposited what was left of it. Then he'd walk the long way (always following the same path) to the water spout, where he'd wash his hands, then start the whole process over. I bet he did it at least 50 times. He didn't make much progress, but it kept him happy and busy.
Luke took a little snooze and did some people watching .
One of our main goals for the weekend was to get out on the lake. The weather was a little cooler than it has been and there was a nice breeze. It make for a perfect lake day. We started out with a little fishing. Kate caught a couple fish right away.
Ben was quietly watching her from the boat. He never said anything but when I asked him if he'd like to try fishing he was so excited! You can tell exactly when he figured out that he caught his first fish!!
Then we were off on the lake for the day. It was Luke's first boat ride!
We did a little swimming and a lot of catching up, Kate did some "exploring", we had a picnic, and all in all had the perfect lake day!
