Oh-So Special

There is a cartoon that Kate watches in the morning sometimes called Oh-So Special.  It is about a bear, Special Agent Oh-So, who completes special assignments that always consist of "three special steps". One episode Kate saw awhile back really caught her eye and she has been talking about it ever since.  She's been wanting to make pine cone bird feeders to hang on our tree outside.  This afternoon we decided to embark on our special assignment.

We fueled up for our big mission with a picnic lunch packed by Grammy.  It was a real picnic, which means we ate it on a blanket.  This is another wish Kate has had all summer. We've packed a couple picnic lunches, but we had them all on a table.  In Kate's mind it doesn't qualify as a real picnic unless we eat it on the ground.

After our lunch we went on a pine cone search.

And of course, no trip to the lake is complete without a stop at the playground.

Then we ended up back at home to follow our three special steps.  According to Special Agent Kate you put peanut butter on the pine cones, roll them in bird seed, then hang them on the tree.  So that is just what we did.  "This is SO fun!", she announces as she rolls the cones.

After she had them all hung, she called the birds.  "Dinner's ready!"  A watched pot never boils;  so far we've had no feathered visitors...
